Speaker notes: In antiretroviral therapy, we
need to understand the PK principles that have been worked out and
studied in other therapeutic areas:
- e.g. antibiotics;
it is well known that some antibiotics kill bacteria in a concentration-dependent
fashion, where the Cmax is the important PK parameter
to monitor.
- for other
drugs it is the time above the minimum inhibitory concentration
(MIC) that is important, and the parameter of interest here is
the area-under-curve (AUC).
These principles
must be taken through to antiretroviral drugs. |
