Speaker notes: Issues remain to be clarified in terms of antiretroviral PK, as above. Expression and function of cellular transporters (bullets 1–3). It will be interesting to see how RTV influences drug entry into cells (bullet 3): RTV has some inhibitory effect on P-glycoprotein and could have a beneficial effect on intracellular drug levels. Access of drug into CSF, testis and across the placenta (bullet 4): need to see whether PIs will be able to penetrate these sanctuary sites.
