Potential Weak Interaction
Atazanavir + ritonavir (ATV/r)
Rilpivirine (RPV)
Quality of Evidence: Very Low
Summary:
Coadministration with atazanavir/ritonavir has not been studied but may increase rilpivirine concentrations. No dose adjustment of rilpivirine is required as the expected increase in rilpivirine concentrations is not considered clinically relevant. Rilpivirine is not expected to affect concentrations of atazanavir/ritonavir. Note, both drugs have risks of QT prolongation and/or TdP on the CredibleMeds.org website (conditional risk for atazanavir; possible risk for rilpivirine). Although the product label for atazanavir advises caution when prescribing atazanavir with medicinal products which have the potential to increase the QT interval, there is no anticipated increased risk of QT prolongation when combining these drugs. Rilpivirine has been associated with prolongation of the QTc interval at supra-therapeutic doses but equivalent rilpivirine concentrations are unlikely to occur during coadministration with atazanavir.
