Coadministration has not been studied. Tirzepatide is metabolized by proteolytic cleavage, therefore no metabolic interaction is expected. Tirzepatide delays gastric emptying, and has the potential to impact the absorption of concomitantly administered oral medications. However, based on available interaction studies, a clinically relevant effect is not expected with rilpivirine, emtricitabine or tenofovir-DF through this mechanism. However, caution is needed when coadministering rilpivirine and GLP-1 agonists such as tirzepatide due to their potential to inhibit gastric secretion and thereby reduce the absorption of rilpivirine. Consider monitoring virological response after initiating tirzepatide.
